Section
31 of the Highways Act 1980 describes several ways by
which landowners can prevent new paths being created
through use. S31(6) is recommended by the NFU &
CLA and also by Surveying Authorities. It gives certainty
as to right and allows landowners to be relaxed about
people walking or riding over their land.
